Logger remanded for ganja possession

A 31-year-old logger of Aroaima was on Monday arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan to answer to a charge of trafficking in narcotics.
Particulars of the charge alleged that on March 2, 2018, at Landsville, Aroaima, Berbice River, Vibert Rodrigues had in his possession 2000 grammes of ganja for the purpose of trafficking.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was represented by Attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson who told the court that on the day in question it was revealed that someone was found with the drugs and indicated that they got it from his client.

Following the accusation, a search was then conducted at Rodrigues’ home but nothing was recovered. However, when a search was done in his environs, the narcotics were found. Rodrigues, along with his son, was taken into custody.

According to Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield, police from the MacKenzie Police Station went to the Aroaima Police Outpost where they arrested the defendant and he allegedly took them to a section of his yard where two plastic bags with the substance were retrieved.

A statement was then given to the police by the defendant, stating that he was the sole owner of the narcotics. Police opposed bail and Rodrigues was remanded to prison.
