PRESIDENT of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) Steve Ninvalle was last week elected chairman of the Caribbean Steering Committee (CSC). The newly-formed committee will chart and promote the development of boxing in the Region and has a life of four years.

Ninvalle was elected unopposed as was his vice-chairman Cecil Forde of Trinidad and Tobago, widely regarded as the Caribbean’s elder statesman.
The four committee members elected are: Dr Debra Stephen-John of Grenada, Leyla Jackson of Cayman Islands and Jose Rosario of US Virgin Islands. James Beckles of Trinidad and Tobago was voted as Speciial Adviser to the committee.
When contacted by Chronicle Sport Ninvalle said that he was heartened and felt humble by the confidence the Caribbean has shown in him and promised that the CSC would not be a talk shop.
The chairman noted that the group is made up of persons whose personal ambition is to see the Region excel at boxing.

Meanwhile, Ninvalle said Jackson, an Attorney-at-Law and Dr Stephen-John were nominated by the Caribbean to run for executive positions when the Americas Boxing Confederation (AMBC) holds its Congress on March 22 in Panama.
