THE Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the murder of Jason De Florimonte, who was shot and killed by the Tourist Villa Hotel and Bar proprietor, Erwin Bacchus, continues at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.

Bacchus, 46, is currently on remand for the capital offence which alleged that on August 4, 2018, at Fifth Avenue Subryanville, Georgetown, he murdered De Florimonte, 30.
The PI is being presided over by Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman with evidence being led by special prosecutor, attorney-at-law Dexter Todd. The defendant is being represented by attorneys-at-law Nigel Hughes and Glenn Hanoman.
The accused, Bacchus, was initially charged with manslaughter, but on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), he was charged with murder.
According to reports, on the day in question, at about 01:30 hours, De Florimonte had a misunderstanding with his girlfriend in front of the hotel when Bacchus’ handyman, who was standing at the hotel’s gate, intervened.
In the ensuing exchange between the two men, the handyman reportedly ran into the hotel compound with De Florimonte in hot pursuit, whereupon Bacchus, a licensed firearm holder who was on the premises at the time, shot him dead.
