PEOPLE’s National Congress (PNC) Regional Secretary for Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), Carol Smith-Joseph and People’s Progressive Party (PPP) Member of Parliament (MP) Harry Gill made their second appearance on assault charges at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The two appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh, who set March 20 as the date for trial.
Joseph is being represented by Attorneys James Bond and Darren Wade, while Attorney Ian Anamayah is representing Gill. Gill’s lawyer told the court that Gill has a video recording of the incident and would like to produce it in court as evidence.
The magistrate; however, suggested that he should submit this video to the police investigator, who would then decide what action should follow.
The charge against Smith-Joseph was that on November 7, 2018, at Fort Wellington, she assaulted Gill so as to cause him actual bodily harm. Gill is also accused of assaulting Smith-Joseph on the said date.
Both of them pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The lawyers for both sides agreed that March 20 was convenient for the trial and that it should proceed unimpeded on that date.
