Labourer killed in argument over cellphone

A SELF-EMPLOYED man was stabbed to death by a fellow villager on Sunday morning, reportedly during an argument over a mobile phone..

Dead is Olrick Da Coasta, 39, a labourer of Lot 11 Public Road, Somerset and Berks, Region Two.

The incident occurred around 01:30 hours and the suspect, Terrence Da Costa, 26, of the same village, is in police custody assisting with investigations.

According to information received, Olrick had allegedly stolen the suspect’s cellphone last month, and when they saw each other on Sunday an argument started between them.
It was during the argument, Olrick reportedly hit the suspect in the face with a piece of wood and a scuffle ensued. The suspect, it is alleged, pulled out a knife from his pocket and stabbed Olrick to the lower abdomen.

The victim then ran to the public road where he collapsed. Persons at the scene, rushed Olrick to the Charity Oscar Joseph Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police subsequently visited the scene and recovered the murder weapon. The body of the deceased is at the Suddie mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
