ACTING Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isccas-Marcus on Wednesday remanded two Venezuelans to prison for breaking into a shop and stealing a quantity of items.
Xavier Lopez, a 24-year-old labourer and Nelson Perez, a 25-year-old trader, were jointly charged. Particulars of the charge alleged that, on January 25, 2019, at Chow Landing, Kaikan River, Region Seven, the duo broke and entered the shop of Collin Basil and stole a quantity of items valued at $1.35M.
The items reported to have been stolen were 35 pounds of silver, two haversacks, a box of Rough Rider condoms, 10 packs of food seasoning, a quantity of Bristol cigarettes, a Samsung cellphone and a music set.
The duo, with the aid of an interpreter, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Police Prosecutor Adduni Inniss opposed bail for to the two foreign nationals, contending that they were a flight risk.
The acting chief magistrate ruled in favour of the prosecution’s objection and remanded the two defendants to prison until February 5, 2019.
