BCB announces senior female squad

WITH the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) senior female Inter-County tournament set to bowl off tomorrow, the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) has released a strong 14-member squad to take part.

Despite the absence of West Indies player Shemaine Campbelle who is with the West Indies in Pakistan, the team will be led by West Indies left-arm pacer Tremayne Smartt with her Windies teammate Erva Giddings as the vice-captain. Winston Smith and Sylvia Autar will serve as coach and manager respectively.

West Indies selectee Sheneeta Grimmond, who has recovered from injury and was recently part of the West Indies training camp, is expected to lead the batting lineup in the absence of Campbelle and Shabiki Gajnabi, who will be leading the Guyana Under-19 Select team, the fourth team to participate in the same tournament.

Grimmond is expected to receive support from Melanie Henry, Sherica Campbelle, Marian Samaroo, Smartt, Giddings and Dian Prahalad. The strong bowling attack will be spearheaded by Smartt, Giddings, Subrina Munroe, Grimmond with support from off-spinner Plaffiana Millington, medium pacer Sherica Campbelle and left-arm spinner Dian Prahalad,

President of the BCB, Hilbert Foster, stated that the Berbice team have been in training for over a month under the supervision of Smith and are fully prepared to defend their title.

In round one of the 50-over format; Berbice will face Essequibo at Lusignan while Demerara opposes the Guyana Under-19 Select team at GCC. The other two rounds are billed for February 3 and 5.

The full squad reads: Tremayne Smartt, Marian Samaroo, Russhanna Lynch, Erva Giddings Plaffiana Millington, Sherica Campbelle, Melanie Henry, Kimmone Thomas, Aleema Arokiu, Sheneeta Grimmond, Subrina Munroe, Ashmini Munisar, Abigail Kishun and Dian Prahalad.
