A POLICE intelligence-led operation on January 12, 2019, resulted in the destruction (by fire) of two acres of marijuana cultivation at 8 Miles, Millie’s Hideout, Upper Demerara River.

The operation took place between 05:00hrs and 18:00hrs. Police went to 8 Miles, Millie’s Hide Out, Upper Demerara River, where they found two acres of marijuana cultivation with about 2500 plants measuring one foot to four feet in height, with an estimated weight of 675 kgs. There were also several nurseries with about 3000 plants, four makeshift camps with hammocks, a mattress, a quantity of kitchen utensils, groceries and about 200 kgs of dried cannabis.

Ranks also unearthed, about seven miles away, another cultivation with about 1500 cannabis plants measuring two to five feet in height with an estimated weight of about 225 kgs.
A nursery with about 1500 plants and a makeshift camp with dried cannabis with an estimated weight of 100 kgs, were also found.

The plants, camps, dried cannabis and other items were photographed and destroyed by fire; the locations were marked for further investigation.
No one was found on the farms, according to the police.
