Army warns against unauthorised use of emblems

THE Guyana Defence Force (GDF) on Friday warned that it is unlawful to use any of its military decorations, badge, emblem, wound stripe, or any such military paraphernalia which resembles the aforementioned.

“We wish to remind members of the public that the unauthorised use of any emblems of the Guyana Defence Force and the Guyana People’s Militia, is an offence punishable by law,” the GDF stated in a press release.

The GDF stated this is strictly prohibited by law and does not accrue any special privilege or immunity from the State.

According to the GDF, members of the public are strongly advised to desist from displaying any such items on their person or property, inclusive of motor vehicles, clothing, bags, buildings, etc.

“All persons who are in breach are urged to desist forthwith, and comply with the law,” the army noted while noting that persons desirous of using these items for any bona fide public performances, stage plays, skits, etc., must first seek approval in writing from the Guyana Defence Force before so doing.
