THE Young Warriors Cricket Club of Cumberland Village, East Canje, Berbice is extending congratulations to the young and talented batsman Shimron Hetmyer on his selection for Royal Challengers Bangalore for 2019 Indian Premier League.

The IPL is the largest and most lucrative T20 tournament globally and Hetmyer has pocketed US$588,000. He is the first Berbician that will play IPL cricket.

A release from the club stated that Hetmyer is destined for greatness since he first went to the club at the tender age of six.

“He was a class above the other kids that normally plays cricket at the ground, and the club nurtured his talent and made him into one of the most destructive batsman in world cricket today.”

The release further stated that the 21-year-old, who comes for a simple family and grew up in a sugar-cane- based area, was an aggressive batsman from the onset.

He excelled at all levels he played the game and even above his age group. He was handed the senior team captaincy early in his career which surely helped him to captain the West Indies Under-19 to their first-ever win in Youth World Cup.

The club wishes Hetmyer huge success but cautioned him to be humble, keep his feet grounded, be discipline and remember the persons that touched his life during his journey to success. He is urged to remember his parents, his community, his cricket club (players and administrators) and mostly The Almighty.

The YWCC takes this opportunity to congratulate young Keemo Paul and Sherfane Rutherford on their pick too, and wish them well.
