Hetmyer; Campbell cop Cricketer-of-the-Year awards

SHIMRON Hetmyer and Shemaine Campbelle copped the male and female Cricketer-of-the-Year awards respectively, when the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) hosted its annual Awards Ceremony, Wednesday evening, at the Umana Yana, Kingston.

Addresses were given by Prime Minister and First Vice-President Moses Nagamootoo and Minister of Social Cohesion with responsibility for Culture, Youth and Sport Dr George Norton.

Kevin Sinclair collects his Junior Cricketer-of-the-Year award from Raj Singh.

The Prime Minister praised the work done by the GCB over the years, especially Secretary Anand Sanasie despite the politics within the game, before he congratulated the awardees and GCB.
Also making brief remarks was president of the GCB, Fizul Bacchus, who gave a review for 2018.

Minister of Social Cohesion with responsibility for Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr George Norton, pointed out that while Guyana had a tremendous year of cricket, he expects greater success in 2019. Norton hailed the awardees as well as the GCB for keeping cricket alive locally and regionally.

Meanwhile, Hetmyer and Campbelle won the awards for the second year running.
Hetmyer’s teammates Keemo Paul and Chandrapaul Hemraj, who both made West Indies debuts this year were the other two contenders while Shabika Gajnabi and Sheneta Grimmond were the two other nominees in the female division.

Hemraj was adjudged the Most Improved Player while Grimmond was voted the Most Promising Female cricketer.
West Indies B captain Anthony Bramble won the Senior Regional Cricketer-of-the-Year award.

President of the GCB, Fizul Bacchus hands over the trophy to Joshua Persaud for scoring the most runs in the Regional Under-19 tournament.

Other awardees were: Kevin Sinclair (Junior Cricketer-of-the-Year), Mavindra Dindyal (Most Runs in the Regional Under-15 tournament), Chanderpaul Ramraj (Most Wickets in the Regional Under-15 Tournament), Mavindra Dindyal (Most Valuable Player in the Regional Under-15 Tournament), Sachin Singh (Most Runs in the Regional Under-17 Tournament), Nigel Deodat (Most Wickets in the Regional Under-17 Tournament), Sachin Singh (MVP in the Regional Under-17 Tournament), Joshua Persaud (Most Runs in the Regional Under-19 Tournament), Kevin Sinclair (Most Wickets in the Regional Under-19 Tournament) and Kevin Sinclair (MVP in the Regional Under-19 Tournament).

Ryan Hercules collects his trophy for his outstanding service as a cricket Coach-of-the-Year.

Corporate Award – Hand-in-Hand Insurance, Dave West Indian Imports and Scotiabank
Special Service Awards – Albert Dass (Everest head groundsman), Lusignan groundsman Romario Samaroo, Dr Puran Singh (Barbados) and Ryan Hercules

Club-of-the-Year 2018 went to Blairmont Community Centre Cricket Club while Essequibo won the Best Franchise Team-of-the-Year. Guyana Under-19 team (2018 Champions – Regional 50 Overs Under-19) and the Guyana Jaguars four-day team – (2018 Champions – Regional 4 Day League), were also honoured.
