PRINCIPAL Magistrate Faith McGusty on Thursday released a 30-year-old police constable on $100,000 bail for two ammunition charges.

Romel Cato, of West Bank Berbice, pleaded not guilty to the two charges which alleged that on December 1, 2018 at Brickdam, Georgetown he had 18 rounds of .223 ammunition and 1 round of .38 ammunition in his possession at a time when he was not a licensed to do so.

Though Police Prosecutor Sergeant Seon Blackman was opposed to Cato being granted pre-trial liberty, given the seriousness of the charge, Magistrate McGusty went ahead and released him on $50,000 bail on each of the two charges and transferred the matter to Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for December 14.
