FORMER People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) youth leader, Bevon Currie has passed away following a prolonged period of illness.
Currie of Annandale, East Coast Demerara, died in the United States of America. He was employed at the Ministry of the Presidency at the time of his death.
The Guyana Youth and Student Movement—the youth arm of the PNCR—said in a statement that it was saddened by the passing of “Comrade Currie who would have served as former National Secretary of our organisation.” “We are privileged to have experienced his keen intellectual prowess and tact that he possessed during his time as national secretary and even as he transitioned to the position of an advisor to our young cadre of upcoming comrades.
By his passing, we are reminded by the words of the Guyanese poet, Martin Carter that states… ‘Now from the mourning vanguard moving on. Dear comrade I salute you and I say. Death will not find us thinking that we die’.”
On social media there has been an outpouring of sentiments following the death of Currie. One Yulisa Atasha said Currie was an amazing friend. “I am lost for words. I can’t talk it’s hard for me right now to say u gone forever more Bevon why u say u will be ok Rip.”
Social Activist, Mark Benschop said Currie was a dynamic, honest, dedicated,
compassionate, intelligent, people’s person. “I will remember our long conversations, some political disagreements, protests, and karaoke at that beautiful spot on Robb Street.
In my opinion, Bevon Currie should have been made a minister of government. But, such is life… I salute this young man for his hard work and dedication not only to the party he believed in, but to the entire country. He didn’t compromise or discard his principles for twenty pieces of silver. And for that, and more I say: Respect, bro. My condolences to his family, and friends. #RIPBEVON.”
Director of Sport and PNCR executive, Christopher Jones said he was shocked. “Bevon Curry, can’t find words!! only last night I spoke your name and was telling someone that at a minute notice you were always available to give support and or guidance on anything bro, but God always knows best… Rest In Peace and Thank You.”
