During council elections, Juewayne Mendonca-Burrowes,who is also an APNU councilor, was elected deputy mayor.

“I am humbled by the confidence that persons placed in me to be the first mayor for Mahdia,” an ecstatic Adams told the Guyana Chronicle. He said that he is optimistic that the council has the best interest of the town at heart and that the group will work towards a common goal.
Adams said that subsequent to the council’s elections on Friday, all parties pledged to work together.

He said among the immediate plans of the council is the addressing of water-supply issues in the town, as well as infrastructural work within its mandate. He noted too that the establishment of a learning resource centre is one of the priority projects on the council’s agenda.

Regarding its social mandate, Adams said the town council will also address the issue of teenage pregnancy, which he noted is prevalent in central Mahdia and other constituencies within the town.”We have that as a priority,” he said.

Other members of the town council are APNU councillors Juan Hunter and Alicia Mootoo; Alliance For Change (AFC) councillors Harley Joseph, Amanda Solomon and People’s Progressive Party (PPP) councillor Roopram Ramphal.
