..police provide medical care, detain mother

Several ranks of the Guyana Police Force willingly displayed their parental skills on Thursday morning to a nine-month old baby boy who was found lying at the entrance of the Baramita Police Station in the Barima-Waini region.

According to the police, minutes before first light on Thursday, the child was found wrapped in a blanket by Constable 21282 Kevin Morgan when he opened the police station’s door.

Police said the unusual discovery by the hinterland-based policeman, caused him to promptly take the smiling child into his arms, cuddled him and after providing a warm bath ,the baby boy slept for a while.

“The Subordinate Officer-in-Charge of the Station, Corporal 15421 Jennifer Griffith and other ranks quickly pooled and purchased clothing and pampers for the “miracle baby” before he was taken for a medical examination at the Health Centre, where he remains at this time, in good condition,” the police noted.

Later in the day as the police and residents made efforts to locate the parents of the child, a 23-year-old Central Baramita resident, who initially visited the health centre and saw the child, showed up at the station and explained to the peace officers that she left her child in the care of someone on Wednesday night. She said she was intoxicated and could not recall who the person was.

She is in police custody assisting with investigations.
