Pareshram was at the time delivering his address on the division’s plans for the Christmas season and how ranks within the various departments intend to safeguard the region.

Addressing ranks, representatives from the Essequibo Chambers of Commerce and Industry, businessmen, members of the Cops and Faith, members from the Community Policing Group (CPG) during the unveiling of the division’s Christmas plans, the Divisional Commander said it is the intention of the division to minimise the activities of criminal elements, reduce traffic congestion and road accidents during the festive season. “We will continue to foster a high degree of public confidence in the Guyana Police Force, as such, we will continue with the social crime prevention plan and team policing and continue to work with major stakeholders,”Pareshram said.

In dealing with those activities, the division plans to heighten its security measures by increasing mobile, beat, backlands and marine patrols, continuation of Operation Restore Order, increase of road blocks targeting the hot spots, heightened vigilance by ranks around night spots, Post offices, commercial banks, ports of entry and all commercial areas. There will be a continuation of ‘Team Policing’ which will focus on Intelligence gathering and coordination with ‘F’ and ‘D’ Divisions. There will also be more community involvement of (C.P.G, Cops and Faith and neighbourhood police).

The commander also promised increased monitoring at the ports of entry, particularly at the Good Hope, Supenaam and Charity water fronts. Ranks will be monitoring the arrival of Venezuelan migrants and other foreigners. In doing so, the commander said the division will be broken into three sectors headed by officers and inspectors. Head of Traffic, Troy Griffith during his presentation, said there will also be an increase in traffic patrols targeting speeding and driving under the influence.
