A CENTURY from Godfrey Thakurdin and five wickets from leg-spinner Ershaad Ali propelled the University of Guyana (UG) cricket team to a first-innings lead in their Noble House Seafoods Second Division two-day cricket competition against GNIC.
GNIC won the toss and chose to bat. David Dick and Ovid Richardson scored half-centuries to lead the side to 200 in 35.4 overs at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground.
Richardson, who opened the batting, struck eight fours and a six in his score of 52, while Dick, who batted at number four, smashed a similar number of boundaries in a score of 75.
Ali, who was the last bowler to enter the attack, got the wicket of Dick then cleaned up the lower order to finish with 5-46 from eight overs, while captain Dennis Heywood and Omesh Danram supported with two wickets each.
UG, in reply, raced to 340-7 in 49 overs by the end of the day’s play with the right-handed Thakurdin hitting an even 100 (12×4, 4×6). Support came from Danram who struck five fours and four sixes in his score of 58 and Elroy Fernanda who is unbeaten on 47 (5×4, 3×6).
Dick, J. Benjamin and Clairmont Duesbury have so far picked up two wickets each for GNIC.
