TRANSPORT Sports Club thrashed Ace Warriors Cricket Club by 254 runs when the GCA/New Building Society (NBS) 2nd Division 40-Over Cricket Competition continued last Sunday at the Eve Leary ground.
Sunil Singh led the eventual winners with the bat. The opener set the tone with a century, which allowed the other batsmen to play their hands. And a few did, including Keon Morris and U-17 batsman Shamar Yearwood towards the end of the innings.
In reply to Transport’s mammoth score of 341-7, Ace Warriors were bowled out for 87 in 21.1 overs.
Singh showed preference for the boundary shots when Transport batted. He got solid support from Devaughn Nandan who rotated the strike well. In his score of 110, the 23-year-old struck 13 fours and six sixes, while Nandan supported well with 38 (4×4, 1×6).
Despite the solid 179-run start, the Ace Warriors wrested some control in the middle of the innings with Davendra Lall and Clayon Halley doing the damage. Lall picked up three wickets while Halley nabbed two wickets, but Morris and Yearwood, batting at number eight and nine took back the initiative in the dying overs for Transport.
Both batsmen stuck four fours and a six in their innings. Morris finished on 40 not out, while Yearwood who struck a huge straight six ended with 31 unbeaten runs.
Opening bowlers Akeem Redman and Franchat Duncan-Clarke led the bowling charge for Transport when they batted. The pair toppled the top four batsmen to leave the score on 31 in 8.4 overs, before Azeem Azeez and Kevin Ross took over.
Ross took two wickets, while Azeez cleaned up the tail. The off-spinner nabbed 4-28 from 4.1 overs.
Selwin Collier and Roger Aaron showed some resistance with scores of 21 and 22 respectively for Ace Warriors.
