WEST Indies U-19 left-arm spinner Ashmead Nedd led the Demerara Cricket Club to victory over GNIC in a low scoring encounter on Sunday in the New Building Society (NBS) 40-over Second-Division Cricket competition.
Nedd flighted the ball well and was stifling in his execution; digging deep to undermine GNIC after his team was dismissed for 114 in 24 overs.

He shared the new ball with pacer Carlton Jacques and the pair had early success; they grabbed four of the first five wickets to put the visitors on the back foot at 46-5.
The teenager then combined with pacer Qumar Torrington and the pair cleaned up the lower order in quick time to register a 56-run win.

Shone DeSouza, who hit four fours during his top score of 22 runs, was the only resistance, but he lost his wicket via the run-out route.
Need finished with 4-15 from eight overs, Torrington 3-16 from four overs, while Jacques grabbed 2-32 from five overs. Despite the wickets, the talk of the day was a diving catch at first slip by Steven Sankar off the bowing of Torrington to dismiss J Groovesnor (0). Sankar went hard to his left for a ball that was flying.

Earlier, the home team had won the toss and batted, but their batsmen struggled as none reached 25.
If Larry Smith and a few lower order batsmen had not played a few shots, the side would not have reached 114 in 24 overs.

Smith scored 22 after running 10 singles and four doubles, while Nedd added 21 (2x4s, 2x6s) and Dexter George (13).

The visitors’ opening bowlers, Jeremiah Benjamin and Jason George, did the initial damage. The medium pacers toppled the top order, grabbing the first four wickets to leave the score on 4-19, and soon it was 26-6 when leg-spinner Clairmont Duesburg got into the thick of things.

Benjamin and Duesburg finished with three wickets each, while George grabbed two wickets.
