HACC, Tranzac share spotlight at SCA gala

TORONTO, Canada – Hawaiian Arctic Cricket Club (HACC) and Tranzac Cultural & Sports Club shared top honours when the Scarborough Cricket Association (SCA) held its 38th annual gala presentation, dinner and dance at the Eastown Banquet Hall, Scarborough.

On a night when juniors, seniors and women were rewarded for their outstanding performances during an eventful 2018 season, HACC were crowned the Elite League playoff champions while Tranzac captured the women’s championships during their first year of competition.

After finishing three points behind divisional champions Victoria Park Cricket Club (VPCC), HACC earned the Elite Divisional playoff championship on a platter with the former opting to forfeit the final. It meant that HACC carted off the Shiv Persaud of Primerica-sponsored trophy while VPCC were awarded the Trophy Stall (Guyana) prize.

The achievement marked an unprecedented seventh overall title for HACC, having won six consecutive Premiere League crowns – a feat that ended in 2015.

Not to be outdone, Tranzac Cultural & Sports Club women took home the Caribbean Wave Restaurant-sponsored winners’ trophy after upstaging Trinity Cricket Canada in the playoff final, after also topping the season points table which saw them claim the Norman Sue Bakery-sponsored trophy.

Tranzac’s Durriya Shabbir and Trinity Cricket Canada’s Lorraine Kenton Kaisoca’s Chuntel Martin and Superstars’ Lorraine Kenton were the respective MVPs in the playoff final.

The Premiere Division playoff champions Highland Creek B waltzed away with the Frank Faubert trophy, sponsored by Scarborough Mitsubishi, turning back the challenge of Bangla Warriors A who had to be content with the Mike’s Auto Collision trophy.

The MVPs were Maaz Pasha (Highland Creek B) and Raqeeb Al Haque (Bangla Warriors A). Divisional champions Bilal Cricket Club, who won the Mike’s Auto Collision trophy, failed to reach the playoffs final

Bawa B took top honours in the First division playoff final, winning the Richard Ramlall prize, sponsored by Trophy Stall (Guyana). The runners-up were Toronto Braves while the MVPS were Suhel Intwala and Waqas Malik. The Conference A and B respective season winners were Champions Cricket Club and Ajax/Scarboro Kingz A. They secured the IR Construction and Action Honda trophies.

The second division saw Kaieteur International Sports Club retaining the Norman Sue Bakery playoff winners’ trophy after whipping Superstars/Islanders Cricket Club in the final, with MVPs being Raqib Shamsudeen and Nairon Motilall. The Conference A and B respective champions were Ajax/Scarboro Kingz and Palace Panthers Cricket Club.

United Titans defeated Kairali Scarborough to claim the third division playoff title and the Roy Lallkissoon trophy while Scarboro/Ajax Kingz were the divisional winners.

The T20 competition saw VPCC win Deo Samaroo Conference playoffs from Armor Cricket Club while United Titans copped the Bisham Singh Conference from Kairali Scarborough.

Action Zone won both the playoff and divisional championships in the Under-13 division taking the Budhave Anandjit and Azad Khan trophies in the process while the Under-16 playoff and divisional champions were United SCA Blues who won the Vish Jadunauth and Mathew Francis trophies.

In the Under-13 division, Deep Patel of Action Zone scored the most runs while teammate Shayan Syed took the most wickets. For the Under-16s, the top scorer was Bilal Khan of SCA Blues while the top bowler was Aditya Pandya of Action Zone.

The Norman Sue Spirit Award, given annually to a worthy individual who has played a big role both on and off the field, was presented to HACC long-standing president Narchand ‘Archie’ Mohan by the late businessman’s daughter Kim Sue.

The citation read: “Your selflessness and charity is an inspiration to all.”
