Wins for Essequibo, East Bank and Lower Corentyne  

ESSEQUIBO, East Bank and Lower Corentyne recorded contrasting wins in the latest round of the GCB Female Franchise league Under-17 T20 tournament, played yesterday at the various grounds.

Essequibo beat Upper Corentyne while East Bank trashed West Berbice and Lower Corentyne humbled East Coast.

At Enterprise, Upper Corentyne won the toss and elected to field. Essequibo then took advantage of the well prepared surface, scoring 78-2 from a reduced 10 overs due to early morning showers. Number three batter, Lisa Charles, made an aggressive 40 from 14 balls, hitting eight fours. Bowling for Upper Corentyne, Briteny Mc Allye was the lone wicket-taker.

In reply, Upper Corentyne struggled to get to their target, and were restricted to 47 from 10 overs. Analesia  D’Aguiar and Onicia Stoby were the most instrumental bowlers, grabbing 2-8 and 2-11 respectively. Essequibo won the match by 31 runs.

In the second encounter, East Coast won the toss and decided to bat first. They scored 69-3 in a reduced 15 overs match. Shemika Edwards made an unbeaten 22, and gained support from Shanaza Majeed with 14 not out.  Lafona Gilgeous grabbed 2-8 and Nivaneen Ramnauth took 1-15.

Lower Corentyne in reply, raced to their total, scoring 70-6 in 11 overs. Captain Lafona Gilgeous top scored with 12. Bowling for East Coast, Tillaya Mohamed grabbed 2-12. Lower Corentyne won the match by 4 wickets.

Meanwhile, over at Bush Lot, East Bank won the toss and elected to bat, scoring a massive 187-1 in 20 overs. Captain Africa Gentle hit an unbeaten 109, and Shamya Daniels 15 not out. Tia Issace was the lone wicket taker.

West Berbice in response, failed to reach their total and only managed 127-9 from their allotted 20 overs. Shamaya Daniels was the most destructive bowler, grabbing 3-25 while she was supported by player of the match, Africa Gentle with 2-37. East Bank won the match by 60 runs.

The action continues today with East Coast facing West Berbice while West Demerara will go against Upper Corentyne at Enterprise ground. Essequibo will face Georgetown while Lower Corentyne will do battle with East Bank at the  DCC ground. Matches start from 09:00hrs.
