Tough call for a vagrant

– either find 25G, or do time for pilfering

CHIEF Magistrate Ann McLennan on Friday fined a 42-year-old vagrant $25,000 for stealing a quantity of items from the yard of an attorney.

Krishna Singh admitted that on October 10 at Hadfield Street he stole a quantity of items valued $27,000, property of attorney-at-law Pamela DaSantos.

According to the facts presented in court by Police Prosecutor Corporal Richard Harris, on the day in question, Singh forced his way into the victim’s yard and stole the items, but was caught out while making good his escape from the yard.

Singh at first denied stealing the items and told the court that he was in the yard picking pear leaf, but later confessed to committing the act.

The Chief Magistrate fined him $25,000, failing which he’d have to spend eight weeks in jail.
