Essequibo whip Upper Corentyne by 124 runs to record third straight win

..West Berbice pip East Bank by two runs

A MATCH-WINNING, all-round display by Anthony Adams with a well compiled (51 not out) and 2-19 lifted Essequibo County to their third win in as many games. This time they whipped Upper Corentyne Franchise by 124 runs at the Port Mourant ground when the Cricket Guyana Inc. (CGI)/ Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Jaguars 50-over Franchise League continued yesterday.

Esssequibo Franchise who were last year’s finalist batted first on a pitch which offered purchase to the fast bowlers early on.

By the 10th over Essequibo found themselves in trouble losing three early wicket, that of opener Kevon Boodie who was caught off the bowling of the lively Dimitri Cameron for (13). First round centurion Kemol Savory then went first ball to Cameron, while Parsaram Parsotam made (20).

In came Ricardo Adams and Chetram Persaud  and they steadied the ship for the Cinderalla County team as they pushed the score to 68, before Adams was bowled by off spinner Eon Hooper for 18.

Anthony Adams, the younger brother of Ricardo, then played a crucial innings for his team.  He teamed up with Neiland Cadogan as they propped up their team’s total in the latter stages on the innings. Both batsmen scored freely with Cadogan clobbering two sixes i n his breezy 23. Adams was left not out on 51 at the end of the 50 overs, with Essequibo closing their innings at 236-9.

In reply, Upper Corentyne had a nervy start to their run chase, losing two wickets to the run out route by the second over.  West Indies fast bowler Ransford Beaton bowling with a remodeled action then pushed Upper Corentyne into further trouble with two wickets of his own.

Beaton had Jonathan Rampersaud caught for (5) and the prize wicket of the pugnacious wicket- keeper /batsman Anthony Bramble for (3). Essequibo dominated the proceedings throughout the Upper Corentyne innings.

Spinners Anthony Adams (2-19) and Chetram Persaud (3-17) combined to torment Upper Corentyne’s progress. They eventually folded for 113 all out in 32.2 overs losing by a mammoth 124 runs. Clinton Pestano made 35, while spinner Eon Hooper chipped in with 31 runs for their team in a losing cause.

Over at the Bush Lot Ground on the West Coast of Berbice, West Berbice went up against the East Bank Franchise. The match had to be reduced to a 32-over a side match up because of early morning rain. Batting first, West Berbice reached a challenging 216 for the loss of six wickets off their 32 overs allotment with Gudakesh Motie leading the way with 58.

Javid Karim 34, Kevin Sinclair 24 and Leon Andrews 20 offered support. Bowling for East Bank, Trevon Griffith recorded 2-42.

In reply, East Bank fell short by two (2) runs. Sherfane Rutherford went ballistic in a losing cause scoring 98 runs, as he hit the ball to all parts of the Bush Lot ground smacking seven sixes (7×6) and five fours (5×4). Rutherford was adjudged Man-of the Match for his brilliant display of  power hitting. (Colin Bynoe Jr)
