GUYANA’s lush greenery, much-talked-about hospitality and delicacies among other amazing features have attracted the eyes of six renowned, international tour operators, who are intent on promoting the country.
The operators had an opportunity to explore the wonders of Guyana during a familiarisation tour which was facilitated by the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), Wilderness Explorers and other stakeholders in the local tourism industry.
Among the companies represented were the Lateral Life, South American Travel Centre, Jumbo Reisen, Galapagos Classic and Cox and Kings.
Though each representative spoke about his/her experience in Guyana, representative of Lateral Life, Steve Wilson, was able to capture the entire trip in his enthusiastic speech.
The operators went to a number of Indigenous villages and towns, including Georgetown and even Kaieteur Falls.
“We’re so privileged to have met people from so many diverse cultural backgrounds….We see fake news all the time and you could fake a lot of things these days, but you cannot fake a genuine, authentic [sic] welcome,” he said, adding that Guyana has delivered “above and beyond” their expectations.
He believes that Guyana has much to be explored, but there are areas in the local tourism industry that can be improved.
Like his colleagues, he expressed willingness to help Guyana build its tourism base by promoting the country through various means.
“Kaieteur Falls is the most spectacular thing we have ever seen in our lives, no matter how many times you have travelled… I see it as a driving force in getting Guyana out there,” said Wilson.
Director of the GTA, Brian Mullis, was excited and welcomed the operators’ support, noting that Guyana has a lot to offer and operators should continue to explore the local wonders.
“We bring tour operators to see the destination, because we are trying to sell destination Guyana… doing it is not possible without partnerships,” said General Manager of the Wilderness Explorers, Tony Thorne.
