TEAM Evolution cyclist, Christopher ‘Chicken Legs’ Griffith, persevered in an enthralling battle with Andrew Hicks yesterday, to dethrone the latter in the feature event of the 14th Laparkan Holdings 11-Race cycling programme.

Last year’s winner, Hicks, along with Griffith, led for the greater part of the 35-lap race and in the end it all came down to a ‘helter-skelter’ dash on the back end of the race to decide the winner. However, Griffith crossed the finish line ahead of Hicks in one hour 18 minutes 38.12 seconds to cop the title.

Coming in third was Michael Anthony who pipped Geron Williams for that position while fifth to sixth went to Alonzo Ambrose and Alexis Muder respectively.

In the Veterans U-45 category, Leer Nunes took top honours while Warren ‘40’ McKay settled for second and Junior Niles third.

Today, the cyclists will turn their attention to the 16th edition of the Victor Macedo Memorial road race which begins at 224 Peter Rose Street, Queenstown at 07:30hrs, moves along Mandela Avenue then to the East Bank Highway towards the Linden/Soesdyke Highway and back to the National Sports Commission on Homestretch Avenue for the finish.

The categories for that race are: Open, Juniors, Mountain Bikes, Veterans Under-45 and Veterans Over-45.

The Veterans Over-45 and Mountain Bikes will turn around at Yarrowkabra while the others will go to the Long Creek school junction.
