– as family prepares for funeral of sibling
THE six other siblings of hospitalised Denesha Sooknandan and deceased Sunil Sooknandan are still in a state of shock over the horrendous accident that visited the two on Thursday night.
The siblings were struck off their bicycle as they were attempting to cross the public road at Ogle in the vicinity of Shell Gas Station.
They reportedly rode into the path of a moving car driven by a female who resides on upper East Coast of Demerara. A breathalyser test conducted on the woman proved negative.
The six-year-old died on the spot, while the teenager was up to late Friday evening still a patient in the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital.
When the Guyana Chronicle visited the home where the children lived, the six other siblings were present but their parents were out and about sorting out funeral arrangements for Sunil and checking on the condition of Denesha.
The humble family lives in a zinc and wooded shack on a government reserve along the Ogle Seawall.
The children said they once lived in Industry at an aunt, but after their parents and relatives had a misunderstanding, a decision was made to move and take up residence along the seawall. They have been living there close to a year.
With the exception of three siblings, ages three, 17, and 18, all the other children are said to be attending school, this publication was told.
The police are awaiting the doctor’s advice before they send a file to the director of public prosecutions (DPP) for advice on the matter.
