Memorial Cycling title this weekend
GUYANA’s top cyclists will converge in the county of Essequibo this weekend for the Urban Benjamin Memorial Cycling Road Race set for Sunday.
Team Evolution’s Paul DeNobrega who was last year’s winner in two hours 55 minutes 52 seconds, will be looking to retain his title and grab the lucrative first place cash prize as well.
However, as is often the case, it will be no easy feat as the other top contenders will all be out to dethrone DeNobrega and claim glory for themselves.
The likes of recently returned Michael Anthony who is in good form along with Alanzo Ambrose, Curtis ‘Chappy’ Dey and Team Coco’s Jamual John will all be present and the 76-mile race is sure to be a thrilling one.
The race begins at Charity and the cyclists will proceed to Supenaam before returning to the point of origin for the finish.
Meanwhile, riders are expected to meet at National Cycling Coach, Hassan Mohamed’s Office at the National Sports Commission (NSC) on Homestretch Avenue at 8:00hrs on Saturday morning for departure to the Parika Ferry Stelling to cross over to Supenaam.
Last year’s winner in the Juniors category was Curtis Dey, however this year will see a new winner being crowned.
In the Veteran-45 race, Stephen Fernandes rode in first last year, while Leer Nunes came in second and Steve Ramsuchit third. The Over-45 category race was won by Andrew Spencer.
The following categories will be contested this year:
