Cyclist dies after collision with minibus

AN unidentified cyclist of African descent who was reportedly struck down by a Georgetown-bound Route 44 minibus, on the Industry Railway Embankment Road on

Thursday succumbed to his injuries later in the evening.
The accident occurred around 13:15hrs on Thursday while the man died about 19:00hrs, at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH). Police said that the 29-year-old driver of the vehicle BWW 283 of South Vryheid’s Lust, ECD, who took the injured but conscious victim to the hospital, is in custody assisting with the investigation. He has passed a breathalyser test.
The bicycle has been removed from the scene of the accident by person(s) unknown. The minibus driver told police that whilst proceeding west along the southern carriageway, the cyclist suddenly rode out of a southern access road, turned west and then north into his path, but because of the short distance, the bus collided with the bicycle and the cyclist fell onto the roadway and sustained injuries.

The body is currently lying at the GPH morgue.
