Misunderstanding leads to attempted murder charge

CHIEF Magistrate Ann McLennan on Tuesday released a 45-year-old Linden resident on $75,000 bail for an attempted murder charge.

Collis Isaacs was not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that on July 25, at Kumung-Kumung Backdam, Puruni, he wounded his cousin, Troy Semple with the intent of committing murder.

According to the facts read in court by Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield, on the day in question there was a misunderstanding between the cousins and Semple armed himself with a cutlass and advanced on Isaacs.

Isaacs managed to overpower his attacker and used the said cutlass to chop Semple to the face.

Mansfield made no objection to bail and as Isaacs was released on $75,000 bail and the matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court for August 16.
