PAUL DeNobrega rode away with the main event when the curtain came down on the third annual Albert Rose Memorial Cycle road race last Sunday.

The cyclist rode 3 laps from Gregory Variety Store Republic Avenue to Moblissa Hill on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway, then returned to finish at the place of origin
Although DeNobrega was competing against top cyclists Junior Niles, Jamal John, Briton John and last year’s champion Walter Grant-Stuart, he still managed to come in first with three primes. Deeriraj Garbaran also ran away with three primes while Rastaf O’Selmo gained two primes.

Other cyclists from the senior category that gained a victorious position are Jamal John who came in second, Curtis Dey in third position, Briton John in fourth, Junior Niles in fifth, while Silvo Innis finished sixth.
Junior Niles was the winner of the U-45 veteran category, with Warren McKay and Jaikaran Sookhoo placing second and third in that order. The Over-45 veteran category was won by Andy Spencer followed by Ian Jackson and Garfield Lorrimer.

Shinetta Teixeira was the first female finisher with Abigail Jeffrey second and Clivecia Spencer in third.
The Juveniles category was won by Johnathan Ramsuchil, followed by Steve Bimshem and Chimeshwar Dhanic in that order.

The BMX 9 to 12 race was won by Jaheme Henery with Shaquille Dow closely behind him. The two were followed by Mark Lewis. Gaining second place encouraged Shaquille Dow to come with a vengeance in his second race and stunned everyone as he took the lead for the 12 to 14 BMX race. This time he was followed by Jaheme Henry and Mark Lewis.

Jahni Lewis was the winner of the BMX 6-9 race. Little Lewis came riding to the finish line with one arm on his cycle, while he was smiling with what he had achieved. Lewis was followed by Javin Henry who finished closely behind him.

Sunday’s competition was the third promoted by the Rose family. It is kept in remembrance of Mr Albert Rose, a veteran cyclist who rode in the 70s and 80s for the Linden community.

Mr Rose died in 2015 from a heart attack. Sponsors that came on board for the third annual Albert Rose competition were: Clear Waters, Bernard’s Variety Store, McRae’s Supermarket, Cody Taxi Service, Foreign Links, Semp and Sons and the Anthony family.
