… ExxonMobil U-14 football off to resounding start

THE ExxonMobil U-14 Boys’ and Girls’ football tournament commenced yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground on CARIFESTA Avenue, with big wins for Buxton Youth Developers and St George’s High.

The tournament was officially opened yesterday morning with a march past ceremony and kick-off by ExxonMobil’s Nicholas Yearwood.
In the first game of the day, Tyrese Dennis (1st, 8th, 20th and 30th minute) helped Buxton blank Tutorial 10-0. There were goals for Makhaya Jarvis (11th and 23rd), Samuel Garnett (12th), Rodwell Weekes (37th) and 2 own goals (36th, 39th).

Game two saw Marian Academy win 1-0 over Uitvlugt, thanks to Daniel Lowe (5th) while game three saw Dolphin edge Friendship 4-3. Dolphin had Dwayne James (15th), Nicholas Tappin (19th, 31st) and Ian Ward (27th) while Prince Ford (13th, 36th) Shane Harper (25th).

Ann’s Grove were also winners on the opening day, beating Charlestown 3-2 thanks to Treshawn Cudsoe (28th, 33rd, 36th) while Sheldon Bowen (3rd) and Mickel Prince (38th) were on the scorecard as well.

Both Annandale and Vergenoegen won via walkovers from Bishops’ and Carmel respectively, with Brickdam winning 4-2 against New Campbellville, thanks to Akeem Henry (12th, 22nd) and Shoran James (27th, 35th). New Campbellville had Lexus Fortune (8th) and Antonio McArthur (36th).

Tucville drew Queenstown 1-1 with Garfield Cegar scoring for the former and Tyrese Hard responding in the 40th. Chase Academy also drew with St John’s after Shem Foris’ 5th-minute goal was cancelled out by Sean Cato in the 36th.

North Ruimveldt (Multi) won via walkover from School of the Nations while Simeon Darlington (26th), Dexter Hector (28th), Tyrese Joseph (36th) and an own goal in the 39th helped St George’s crush East Ruimveldt 4-1. Ome Harris scored for the losers.

South Ruimveldt, on the other hand, defeated Kingston 3-1, thanks to R. David (9), Nashawn Monderson (20) and Anthone Bernard (39). Joash James (5) put Kingston ahead before the surge saw them lose by two goals.

Matches continue next Saturday at the Ministry of Education ground on CARIFESTA Avenue. The tournament is also sponsored by the Ministry of Public Health and Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) under its Pepsi brand.
