UDFA/Osmond Cummings Memorial Under-20 takes place today

THE stage is set for this year’s Osmond Cummings Under-20 football championship, where 10 clubs from the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA)  will be involved from today at the Bayrock Community Centre ground.

The tournament, which is being sponsored by former national striker, United States-based Nigel ‘Mice’ Cummings, kicks off with a double-header.

From 14:00hrs, Amelia’s Ward Panthers take on Hi Stars and at 16:00hrs Milerock challenge Blueberry Hill United.

Matches continue tomorrow when Eagles United and Winners Connection lock horns and Botofago and Net Rockers clash in the feature encounter.

Osmond Cummings was a football player with the Wismar club Botofago and was a major force behind his younger brother Nigel becoming a national player.

The tournament is held in Osmond’s memory.

The ten clubs affiliated to the UDFA are bracketed into two groups.

Group A comprises Amelia’s Ward Panthers, Hi Stars, Eagles United, Winners Connection and Topp XX while Group B has Milerock, Blueberry Hill United, Silver Shattas, Net Rockers and Botofago.

The top two clubs from each group will advance to the final four.

The championship will have a break for the FIFA World Cup then it is expected to conclude in August.
