“B” Division police ranks on Thursday afternoon arrested a man who allegedly murdered a  fishermen  at Number 65 village on the Corentyne on Thursday .

The dead fisherman has been identified as Devanand Jailall called “Shetty” of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.

His lifeless body was discovered with his throat slit a the boat, ‘Master Roberto’ on which he was a crew member. He was discovered in a bloodied state a little after noon on Thursday by other fishermen.

This publication was told the suspect , who hails from Whim, and the victim were involved in a  scuffle following a misunderstanding.

Meanwhile, a niece of Jailall,  Yashmanie Rampersaud said her uncle came to their Port Mourant Corentyne,Berbice home in search of his sister and his 14 -year- old son recently earlier on Thursday.

“ Mommy wasn’t home and he stay a little saying he really wanted to see his son,but the boy don’t live with us anymore.So uncle left saying he coming back tomorrow,” she recounted.

His Sister Dhanmattie Rampersaud was in tears when she arrived at the scene. She told reporters she was hoping to see him today .“ Little after one I get a call  saying something happen so I come up here to find out. This is shocking to us,” the teary-eyed woman said.

When the Guyana Chronicle  arrived at the scene, investigators had just concluded their initial investigation and left the area. Blood was still visible on the boat and inside the cabin.Fishermen converged at the scene as they discussed the  incident that rocked the fishery community there.

“ So much thing ah happen these couple day meh nah left meh family and go sea,” one fisherman remarked.

The body of the victim was taken to the Skeldon Hospital Mortuary and is awaiting a post mortem examination.
