Region Two nurses honoured

The efforts of nurses working in the health sector in Region Two (Pomeroon /Supenaam) were recognized on Saturday by the regional administration as the health professionals observe International Nurses Day 2018.
A special programme and lunch was organized on Saturday at the Suddie Hospital as showers of appreciation were heaped on the contributions the nurses have made in the health sector in the region. The region has approximately 132 nurses offering their services in the sector at the Suddie Hospital , Oscar Joseph Hospital at Charity and at health centres.

Thanking the nurses on behalf of management of the sector was Medical Superintendent Dr Sonia Grey who said nurses are the faces of the sector and play an integral role in its operation. Dr Grey said that nurses are blessings to humanity and they continue to execute their work with faith and determination. She urged the nurses to continue to perform their duties and responsibilities with love and commitment.
“From the administrative level we will wholeheartedly like to say thank you to all the nurses at the various hospitals, health centre and public health buildings and also to our Cuban Thnurses for their contributions,” Dr Grey said.

Several nurses received certificates of appreciation.
Dr Grey said that being a nurse is a natural calling and as such she congratulated the Nurses for the passion they show towards their work.
During the programme , the  nurses received tokens of appreciation, certificates and trophies. Outstanding nurses received awards  for their punctuality, attendance as well as improvement in capabilities on the job.
The efforts of nurses from the Cuban the  batch at the Suddie Hospital efforts were also recognized. The programme featured, songs, poems and dances done by the nurses themselves.
The nurses who attended the function are calling on the Ministry of Public Health to name  International Nurses Day  a public holiday.
Nurses week was observed in recent days under the theme “Nurses a Voice to lead -Health is a Human Right.”
