AN out-of-control barge crashed into the Demerara Harbour Bridge, freeing two pontoons and resulting in the Demerara Harbour Bridge authorities restricting heavy duty traffic on Saturday evening on both sides of the structure.
“All motor lorries, trucks and all laden canters and tractors will be restricted from transiting the bridge until further notice. Management wish to apologise for any inconvenience caused,” General Manager of the Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation (DHBC) Rawlston Adams said in a brief comment, as he noted maintenance works were progressing.
The majority of the commuters were on their way home when they were caught in the traffic jam.
