American Airlines to make formal application next month

AMERICAN Airlines (AA) is expected to deliver its application to provide flight service to Guyana next month, when representatives of the airline meet with the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). The company had made contact with the authority to ascertain the procedure for conducting services here.

Director-General Captain Egbert Field told the Guyana Chronicle that a team from the company will be coming to Guyana to have discussions with the authority next month, “but really they will be coming to deliver their application.”

Field said that AA has even apologised for advertising its pending service before approaching the authority, but they have nonetheless extended a warm welcome to the airline to provide its service here. AA had announced that it would start operations in Guyana by December, while ticket sales were to have commenced early last month. The December operation would be just in time for the completion and opening for the well upgraded US$150M Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).

AA said it is growing its presence in the Region with the addition of four new destinations in South America: Georgetown, Guyana; Pereira, Colombia and Cordoba, Argentina, and one new city in Mexico, Oaxaca. The company had announced that it would fly four times a week between Miami and Guyana, using an Airbus A319 which carries some 160 passengers.
