$700 000 in prizes up for grabs in `Transcend’ Independence Tape-ball competition

TRANSCEND Entertainment will once again host its Independence Cricket Festival, Barbecue and Lime come this weekend (May 5 and 6) at the National Cultural Centre tarmac.

The tournament will see at least 20 teams, including defending champions, Village Rams, vying for cash prizes and trophies to the tune of $700 000 across the two days of competition. Up for grabs also will be prizes for Man-of-the-Match, Best Batsman and Best Bowler of the competition.

Teams will consist of seven players and each team will be allotted five overs to bat.
Speaking to Chronicle Sport, organiser of the event, Dwight Dodson, noted that so far there has been a great response to the festival. He pointed out that at least 15 teams have participated and noted that there is still space for interested persons to get on board.
He further urged teams to be registered by 08:00hrs on Saturday morning, as teams will be drawn by 08:30hrs with action starting at 09:00hrs.

Interested persons can call Dwight on 639-3785 or Kefa on 6645035 to register their teams.
Sponsors on board include Oly’s Jewellery, Movement Auto Sale, Church’s Chicken, Banks DIH and the National Sports Commission.
