Labourer fished out of Charity trench

THE body of Khemraj Singh, a 59-year-old labourer of Grant St Joseph, Lower Pomeroon, Region Two, was on Saturday morning fished out of a trench at Charity,on the Essequibo Coast.

He was last seen alive on Friday by his sister. Singh was reportedly a habitual drinker and his family lives overseas.

According to Singh’s sister Deoranee Ramotar, she last saw her brother alive Friday evening, when she gave him food before he left her home.

On Saturday morning, Ramotar was walking to her brother’s home when she observed his body floating motionless, face down, in a nearby drainage trench.

She raised an alarm, persons gathered at the scene and shortly after the police were summoned.

Detectives on the scene who retrieved Khemraj’s body observed that it bore several marks of violence. The body is at the Suddie Hospital Mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
