THE highly-anticipated ‘Skip to my Lou’ Jump Rope competition took place last Tuesday in the mining town of Linden.
The competition, which has been a part of the Linden Town Week calendar for the last five years, drew hundreds of people at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.
The event saw primary and secondary schools from across the mining town compete in Individual Freestyle, Pair Freestyle, Last Man Standing and the Double Dutch Freestyle.
In addition, for the first time an Invitational Fusion segment with schools of Regions Two, Four and Six was added to the competition.
Gaining 117 points, Christianburg won the Double Dutch Freestyle (Primary) segment, followed by Regma 69 points and Mackenzie 60.
For the Paired Freestyle (Primary), Regma copped the winning spot with 119 points, while second went to Christianburg, 111 points and Royal Halls School of Learning placed third with 102.
In Individual Freestyle (Primary), Royal Halls School of Learning took the first position, Amelia’s Ward second and Christianburg third.
The Pair Freestyle (Secondary) saw Mackenzie High in first place, Linden Foundation second and New Silvercity third.
In Double Dutch (Secondary) segment, Mackenzie High were first, Linden Foundation second with Christianburg Wismar in third position.
With 126 points, New Amsterdam Secondary School took first place in the Invitational Fusion segment, followed by Wakapoa Secondary who gained 99 points and Richard Ishmael, 85.
Setting his new personal best of 21.47 was Orin Fraser of the New Silvercity Secondary who won the Last Man Standing (Secondary). Fraser was also the winner of this segment back in 2016. Mackenzie High School came in second while Linden Foundation copped third place.
Winners were awarded trophies, medals, bikes, cellular phones, Blutooth speakers, smart watches, hampers, water bottles and haversacks.
The competition was made possible with the support of the Ministry of Education in collaboration with Coca Cola, Department of Education Region 10, The National Sports Commission, BOSAI Minerals, Republic Bank, COURTS and Corporate Linden.
