The Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA) is strengthening its capacity to deliver a number of courses with a recent donation of several critical text books valued at CD$2, 153.

implemented PROPEL project (Promotion of Regional Opportunities for Produce through Enterprises and Linkages) presented the texts last Friday to GSA during a simple ceremony held at the school in Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.

The initiative will aid GSA to pioneer the establishment of an Agribusiness Incubation Centre that maximizes the success quotient of start-up enterprises by offering them best opportunities with minimum risks. Agribusiness incubation represents a new resource to promote enterprise development in agriculture and facilitate business among agri-preneurs. This will promote young entrepreneurs in agribusiness through skills and services based opportunities (shared facilities and equipment, business development, technology, finance, mentoring and networking).

Marissa Lowden, WUSC Caribbean (Guyana) Inc.’s Country Coordinator noted, “We are happy to collaborate with Scotiabank and the Guyana School of Agriculture on this capacity building initiative which will help to accelerate the learning process of the school and

contribute to the establishment of the Agribusiness Incubation Centre.” “With the PROPEL project in its final year of implementation, it is commendable to see private sector lending the much needed support to these educational institutions, and it is anticipated that this partnership will continue even after the end of PROPEL.”

GSA Principal Dr. Dindyal Permaul thanked Scotiabank for the timely donation, noting that it was encouraging to see the Bank expanding its support to education in the agriculture sector. Scotiabank Marketing Manager Jennifer Cipriani indicated that the Bank is willing to

partner with reputable organisations on projects that benefit youths in the areas of education, health and social well-being. She noted that this donation is just the beginning of the partnership with PROPEL and the GSA and the Bank will be exploring other options to support the GSA’s programmes.
