Rape sentencing in two weeks

A SEEMINGLY calm Trevon Giles was remanded to prison after his sentencing was deferred to April 26, 2018, after his attorney Clyde Forde requested a probation report, Giles having been found guilty on one of two counts of rape of a child.

The accused was found guilty on one of two counts of rape of a girl under age 16 when a 12-member jury deliberated for more than two hours on Wednesday in the Sexual Offences Court of the Georgetown High Court before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow.

On the first count, the jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict and on the second count they arrived at a unanimous not guilty verdict.

The charge is that on the first count, Giles engaged in sexual penetration on January 14, 2016 in the county of Demerara with a child under age 16.

On the second count, Giles engaged in sexual penetration with a child under age 16 on January 17, 2016 in the county of Demerara.

The state was represented by Abigail Gibbs and Tiffini Lyken.

Giles will be sentenced on April 26, 2018, by Justice Jo-Ann Barlow in the Sexual Offences Court after the presentation of a probation report.
