The University of Guyana (UG) will this month keep the Registry building at its Turkeyen Campus lit in blue in recognition of United Nations World Autism Awareness Day which was observed on April 2.
Public Relations Officer Paulette Paul said the activity is intended to shine light on autism and help to increase understanding and acceptance of those afflicted with the disease.
The blue lights were provided by Pulse Entertainment while approval was given by UG’s Registrar for the Registry building to be lit.
This is the ninth year the global “Light It up Blue” campaign has shone the spotlight on
children, individuals and families across the globe living with autism.
The event is observed by the international community where hundreds of landmarks, buildings, homes and communities around the world are lit in blue in recognition of people living with autism.
Advocate body ‘Autism Speaks’ supports and emphasises the need for Autism-friendly events and educational activities to take place throughout the entire month of April, increasing awareness and fostering worldwide support.
