Dangerous driving accused on bail

NARSINGH JAGASAR who was charged three weeks ago and remanded to prison for causing death by dangerous driving, was on Thursday released on bail when he made an appearance in the Vigilance Magistrate Court.

Jagasar is alleged to have driven his minibus BKK 6714 and struck and killed Lydia Rodrigues, an 87-year-old woman, as was heading to church at Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara on March 4, 2018.

According to a police statement, the minibus was proceeding west while Rodrigues was standing on the northern side of the road.

As the minibus approached, Rodrigues reportedly tried to cross the road and was struck by the vehicle. She sustained head injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

A breathalyser test conducted on Jagasar showed no trace of alcohol in his system.
Jagasar who was represented by attorney Bernard DaSilva was granted bail in the sum of $300,000 and the matter was adjourned to April 5, 2018.
