THE human resource capacity of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) has been boosted with 98 recruits who officially became members of the force after a passing-out parade at the Tactical Services Unit Square on Thursday.
They were immediately informed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Nigel Hoppie of their duty to serve and the high public expectations of them.
“You are expected to always display professionalism and dedication that are necessary for the execution of your duties and remember the oath that you took, to serve and protect the citizens of the country,” he said.
Assistant Commissioner Hoppie believes the recruits are more than capable of executing their duties, because they were able to successfully complete the challenging four-month period of training.

He urged them to be proactive in their work.
“It is becoming more evident that [the] traditional reactive style of policing does not effectively contain criminals in a society that is changing rapidly… the qualities you achieved will prove to be invaluable to your work, but you however require continuous training to improve and strengthen your diverse abilities,” said Hoppie, as he urged the recruits to resist temptation and remain honest.
During the training, the recruits were instructed in a number of areas, including communication skills, anger management and self-defence.
The outstanding ranks of the programme were recognised for their efforts.
