Young mother granted bail on narco trafficking charge

THE mother of a six-month-old baby appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on a charge of trafficking in narcotics.
It is alleged that on March 7 at Independence Boulevard, La Penitence, Kimberly Jupiter, 21, had in her possession 236 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

According to Prosecutor Richard Harris, the file is incomplete but based on the statement provided by the police, the narcotics were found in the defendant’s bedroom. She allegedly told the officers that the narcotics belonged to her boyfriend.

Attorney George Thomas asked the Magistrate to grant bail to his client, since it was her first offence and due to the fact that she has a six month-old baby. He noted too that the accused lives with others at her place of residence.

However, the Prosecutor objected to bail based on the serious nature of the offence and added that there is no information that relates to other occupants living in the house.
Magistrate Leron Daly granted bail in the sum of $100,000 and the matter was adjourned until April 4.
