AN 18-year-old Norton Street resident was on Tuesday remanded to prison on a charge of simple larceny.
Trayon Arthur, appeared before City Magistrate Judy Latchman on an allegation that on February 28, while armed with a pair of scissors and in company of others, at the National Park, he robbed police officer Nashan Bentick of one Samsung Galaxy S5phone worth $40,000, two silver rings valued at $50,000 and one silver chain worth$25,000.
Arthur pleaded not guilty to the charge.
His attorney, Tiffany Jeffrey, in asking the court to be lenient with her client, said that on the day in question he was with the wrong company. She added that Arthur’s parents and the virtual complainant had since come to an agreement in relation to settling the matter. However, when Bentick subsequently arrived at the court he gave no indication that he wanted the court proceedings to be discontinued.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore cited the seriousness of the offence in his objection to bail being granted to the accused.
As such Magistrate Latchman refused Arthur his pretrial liberty and remanded him until March 19, when he will make his next court appearance. .
