Toddler died from drowning – autopsy

THE autopsy conducted on the remains of two-year-old Tia Conyest of Monka, Upper Pomeroon River in Region Two, has confirmed that she died as a result of asphyxiation due to drowning. The autopsy was conducted on Monday evening by Government Pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh at the Suddie Mortuary.

Conyest was found floating on February 25, around 13:00hrs.

According to the mother of the child, Marcia Conyest, she left her child playing in their unfenced yard around midday, while she was doing her chores. The mother said when she made checks about half an hour later she could not find her child.
After making other checks and she did not find the child, the mother said she then checked at the front, where the child was observed her lying motionless in the Pomeroon River with her face down.

The mother said she immediately raised an alarm and neighbours gathered and comforted her. The deceased was then taken out of the water and escorted to the Charity Police Station, where the body was examined. There were no marks of violence, neither does the family suspect foul play.
