Two years in absentia for fighting

TWENTY-four-year-old Arfaan Ahmad of Wakenaam Island in Region Three was sentenced to two years in absentia for causing injuries to another man from Wakenaam. The sentence was read out in court by Essequibo Magistrate Esther Sam.

An ex parte trial was conducted into the matter and Ahmad was found guilty of the offence. The magistrate then sentenced him to two years. A warrant is to be issued for his arrest so he can serve his time.

On June, 19, 2017, Ahmad was charged for felonious wounding committed on 18-year-old Naseeb Kelawan of Friendship, Wakenaam. After bail was granted, he continuously missed his trial. The matter, however, continued with evidence which proved that he indeed injured Kelawan. He has to spend two years in jail for the offence.
