A 19-year-old bowman, Kawal Diban of Belle Plaine, Wakenaam, Region Three, was on Wednesday fined $30,000 and ordered to serve one-year’s imprisonment after he was found guilty of smoking cannabis.

The sentence was read to the teenager by Essequibo Magistrate Esther Sam at the Wakenaam Magistrate’s Court. The teen was caught on May 15 last year smoking cannabis on the Island. He was charged for the offence and later a trial was conducted. On February 28, he was found guilty and was sentenced and fined.
