FYRISH second division cricketer, 73-year-old Zamin Hamid was recently honored by the Appiah family for his contribution to the development of the game, both as a player and administrator.

Hamid, who is also the oldest active player in the County, was also honored for his role in community development.

He participated in the inaugural Ramnarine Appiah Memorial cricket competition and was one of the outstanding bowler.

He also participates in the New Building Society Limited and Raffik and Sons second division cricket competitions, along with other tournaments run by the Berbice Cricket Board.

At a simple, but significant ceremony held recently, Mukesh Appiah presented a beautiful plaque to Hamid with his photograph engraved, along with medals, trophies and a button.

The recipient expressed gratitude to the Appiah family for recognising his contribution to society in general, and promised that he will continue to play as long as possible.

Appiah urged the youngsters around to emulate the attitude and commitment of the senior citizen.

Other senior citizens honoured were the oldest living resident in the area–97-year-old Gulcharran Kandie–along with Bharrat Budhram, Partab Mangal and Nelson Crandon.
